The collection contains letters addressed to Rev. Gillis from his brother Lieutenant Fredrick Gillis detailing his training for World War I in the United States at Plattsburgh, NY. The correspondence continues through Lt. Gillis’ travels to New York City for his transport across the Atlantic and he writes of his experiences on the ground in both England and on the front lines in France.
